The Crookston Volunteer Fire Department was established January 12, 1892. The Association in its current form was founded February 8, 1957 as it separated away from the City of Crookston and became a separate entity, contracting with the city as well as becoming a rural service fire department.
The Crookston Firefighter's Association is composed of twenty-five paid-on-call firefighters. The Association serves fourteen townships that encompass over 500 square miles and assists the city of Crookston. The Association provides emergency services such as fire suppression in rural, urban, and wild land areas, motor vehicle rescues, medical assists, farm and industrial rescues, hazardous materials responses, general rescues, carbon monoxide emergencies, search operations, water and ice rescue, and public assistance calls. In addition to emergency services the Association is also involved in fire prevention, fire education, and safety programs, as well as many community service activities.
